TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY .MEETING. Tile Turua Town Board held it' ? April meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Mules presiding over Messrs J. McConnell, S. G. Williams, J. Sciuniut, J. H. Johnston, and the clerk, Mr J< E. Green. BRIDGE HAND.RAILS. The size of the timber to be in the construction of the handrails on the Piako Road and Willow Drain bridges was discussed at the instigation of the works committee, whicn had been empowered at the previous meeting to act in the matter. The different sizes were settled and tne matter referred back to the committee. ROAD WORK. Mr 8. G. Williams reported that Oparia Road had been metalled with metal received from the Tararu quarry and from the dump. Patching had been done to various roads, and sundry pieces of new iffetaj. had been blinded. The new meta) had been rolled and a satisfactory job done. It was desirable to secure the road roller for another day to finish the work. Members expressed satisfaction at the manner in which the work had been done. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. Tile Hamilton .Borough Council, aS the controlling authority, forwarded a statement of the amounts of heavy traffic license fees received into the pool and the allocations to each lornl body. The board, being dependent on the County Council, should look to the council for its share. FINANCE. The clerk reported that the general rates levied for the year 1926-27 totalled £373 18s, and for the street lighting £3l. 2s. Tlie rates received amounted to. £267 17s lOd on the general account and £22 16s lOd on the lighting account. Outstanding rates at March 31 totalled £l3l 12s 6d. The total receipts for the year totalled £766 Is 7d, including £231 4s refund of deposit. Of the £534 17s 7d actual expenditure £4OO was on* works. Thus there was an excess cf £42 17s 6d of expenditure over actual receipts. DOMAIN GRANT. The chairman reported that at March 31 the local Domain Board had a credit balance in the bank of 2s 7d, and the members had to find 2s 5d to make up the 5s bank charge. The board had spent £7O on improvements to the ground, and it had no steady revenue except a small amount for grazing. Funds were badly needed to continue the improvements. Members urged that the Domain Board expedite the application for a Government subsidy on the amount of money expended. The chairman reported that the Domain Board intended to interview tne Minister of Lands when he visited Turua, Mr Johnston reported that the Turua Football Club had again made a grant of £lO to the board. Mr Williams moved that the Town Board make a grant of £lO. Carried.
