PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday night, the deputy-chairman (Mr W. T. Power) presiding over the ic,Mowing: Messrs J. W. Silcock, W. N. Chamberlain, R. J. Thorp. C. T. Mettam, J. McDonald, W. Smith, G. H. Taylor (headmaster), and W. L. Lawrence (secretary). PRAISE FOR SCHOOL. In connection with the commendatory letter received from the Auckland Education Board with reference to the success achieved by pupils in the matriculation and other examinations held towards the close of last year, several members spoke appreciatively Oif the good work done, and said that it was gratifying to receive such eulogistic references from the board. It was resolved to record the committee’s sincere appreciation of the splendid results obtained, and that a letter of congratulation be forwarded to the headmaster and Mr E. G. Preston and Miss H. Taylor, of the secondary department. NEW PLAYING AREA. The question of further ploughing, levelling, and sowing of permanent grass in the new playing area was considered at length. Messrs Chamberlain and Thorp were appointed, with authority to have th© work done as soon as possible. BOROUGH DUMP. In connection with the area in the gully of the new playground which is being used as a public dump, it was reported that a considerable improvement had been made since the last meeting. It was resblved to advise the Borough Council that the committee approved of the change that had been made and request that a cattle-proof fence be erected on either side of the gully. SWIMMING BATHS. The Borough Council wrote expressing thanks for the offer of assistance in connection with the establishing of municipal swimming baths, and advising that it was. proposed to purchase a site for the purpose in Princes Street. , PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS. The sub-committee appointed reported at length on the work of tarring and sanding the playgrounds, much of which had been completed. In connection with that portion which had net been treated, it was resolved to go bn with the work, and that the cost be borne by the Post Office Savings Bank Account. Messrs Silcock and Power were appointed to arrange for the work to be carried out.
It was resolved to record grateful thanks and appreciation to the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) and councillors for the loan of the tar-spraying machine and other assistance given when tarring the larger areas of playground. VISITING COMMITTEE’S REPORT. '
On behalf of the visiting committee Mr McDonald reported that an Bin by Sin gatepost was 'required to replace a broken one. There was also a smaller gate that needed repairing, and various minor matters that required attention. Messrs. Power and Silcock were authorised to have the work attended to. DENTAL CLINIC. The Education Boatd, Auckland, wrote acknowledging the committee’s suggestions in connection with the erection of a dental clinic. The board advised that the whole matter had been referred .to the department at Wellington and a telegraphic^reply asked for. ANNUAL MEETING.The secretary reported that he had forwarded all bocks and accounts to the board for annual audit purposes. Instructions had been received that the annual householders’ meeting and election of committee would be held on April 13. It was decided to, hold a special committee meeting on 'April 9. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £l3 6s Id on the school fund account and £2 on the playing area account were passed (for payment.
