MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR MATCHES.
The Hauraki Plains Tennis Association met at Ngatea on Tuesday last, Mr D. G. McMillan (Turua) presiding over Messrs W. Mclnnes (Kaihere), D. Pike (Patetonga), W. Wylde (Ngatea), and A. R. Vowles. (Hopai), hon. secretaryADDITION TO RULES. On behalf of Mr A. H. McClean, who had given notice of motion, the secretary moved, and Mr Mclnnes seconded, that an additional rule be added as No. 20a, to the effect that no affiliated club may arrange dates for inter-club or outside matches without first obtaining the sanction of the sub-association. —Carried. • THE’ FRANKLIN MATCH. In connection with the match against Franklin at Ngatea on Saturday March 26, it was agreed that the association should play its best, team. Mr Vowles pointed out that the ladder had proved useless as a means of selecting the team.. No matches had been played. a This was supported by delegates, who advocated the appointment, of a selector or selection committee. Mr McMillan moved that a selection committee of three be appointed fol the balance of the season. This was carried, and on the motion of Mr Mclnnes the Turua, Hopai, and Patetonga delegates (Messrs D. G. McMillan, A. R. Vowles, and D. Pike) were appointed. It was decided that six ladies and six men comprise the teams, the games to be played being four singles, six doubles,’ and,four combines. Each playre would play two matches. A charge for admission to. the courts was decided on, the prices being Is for men and 6d for ladies. A buffet will be run by the Ngatea club. As far as is known at present, play will commence at noon. TOURNAMENT MATCHES. The matter of completing the championship and handicap tournaments on the day of th© Franklin match was discussed, but in view of the number of games necessary to be played by several members the suggestion was ruled out, It was agreed that some o,f the semi-finals should b© played before, and that the finals should be played on the day of the representative match. Tuesday next, at noon, was selected as the day, and -.m the same day the selection committee will require certain players to attend to try out for places in the team which will be selected at the end of the day. The secretary was. instructed to procure eleven miniature cups as trophies for the various competitions. Mr D. G. McMillan promised to donate one of the cups, and was accorded a vote of thanks. ANNUAL BALL. The date of the associations annual ball was fixed as Wednesday, May 4. Considerable discussion ensued as to where the function should be held, as the claims of the Turua Town Hall far exceeded those of the Ngatea Public Hall now that motor-cars had eliminated the factor of distance. No, finality could be reached and decision was, deferred.
