FOOTBALL.
THE NGATEA CLUB, ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Ngatea Football Club was held on .Wednesday evening; Mr J. Costello presiding over an attendance of 20 players and supporters. The balance-sheet showed, a credit balance of £35 12s Id compared with £l7 10s 8d at the beginning of the Members’ subs; totalled £8 KU donations £l5 8s 6d, gate takings £l4 10s 3d, annual ball £4o' 8s 6d, Saturday night dances £l9 15s Bd, and sundry items bringing the total receipts up to £139 19s 7d. Items of expenditure included £23 7s on the conveyance Qf players, £22 for catering and injured players. Reporting verbally on the season’s the president, Mr James Costello, commented on the sound financial position of the club, d.ue to th© capable administration. The season, he said, had been a pleasant one, and though the chib had not won the senior competition it had secured the second place. As Mr J. Costello would not consent to be nominated for the office of president, Mr H. Dent was elected on the motion of Messrs. Foster and Costello. Other officers appointed were as follows: —Patron, Mr W. G. Hayward ; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. Bert risen (re-elected); selectors : Seniors, Mr E. C. Barribal, juniors, Mr J. McPherson; delegates to Hauraki , Plains Rugby Union, .Messrs H. Dent and C. S. Foster; additional delegates to Rugby Union general meetings, —Messrs R. McPherson and C. Molloy ; social committee, Messrs E. C. Barribal, R. McPherson, J. Gribble, F. Leonard, G.,Buchanan, J. McPherson, . and W. Williams. It was decided to apply to the Ngatea Public Hall for the use Of the-hall for the season at, the lowest possible charge. Mr W. G. Hayward was accorded a v-te o,f thanks for again granting the club the use of his. paddock as a playing field. Membership Tees were fixed at 5s for seniors and 3s for juniors.. The matter of the club securing a ground of its own- was again brought up, and as. nothing bad so rar been done a committee comprising . Messrs Walton, Foster, Dent, and Costello were appointed. ■The question of altering. the constitution of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union to provide for the appointment o,f five or seven fair men, independent off club influence, to be the Union, was brought up by Mr C. Foster, who urged members to think over the matter carefully. He intended bringing *the subject before the annual meeting of the Rugby Union. The method of appointing the Union’s representative selectors was introduced for discussion by Mr G. Euchanan, -who advocated giving the players a greatar say in the matter. After various methods had been discussed it was decided to give notice to, move at the annual meeting off the Rugby Union that the club selectors the union representative selector or selectors. Mr W. G. Hayward stated that the Patetonga Club was concerned with ■ the interference in club fixtures, by the number of representative matches. Members agreed that the trouble was a serious one, and well warranted ' consideration. It was decided that the club give the schoolboy team all the assistance possible during the season. For a practice it was agreed to offer to play a match owing to~Netherton on April 2nd. • The secretary was instructed to endeavour to arrange a match at Auckland. UNITED COAST CLUB. MEETING OF MEMBERS. The third annual meeting of the United Coast Football Club was held in the Kopuarahi school room on Thursday last, Mr C. Lawrence presiding over an attendance of twelve. The committee recommended in the annual report that the club consider the question of carrying on in view of the number of matches defaulted durlack of sufficient players, and also in consideration of the lack of public support which was so evident. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance ef £1 6s Bd. After considerable discussion the report and balance-sheet were adopted, and. it was decided to appeal to the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union for
a readjustment of club boundaries. Messrs C. Lawrence, F. Wallis, R. Whelan, and P. Clark were appointed delegates to the Rugby Union’s annual meeting, and the club meeting was adjourned until they could report.
