WATER SUPPLY SCHEME
PROGRESS OF CONTRACTS.
REPORT BY ENGINEER.
The Hauraki Plains County Council’s water supply engineer, Mr E. F. Adams, reported at yesterday's council meeting that the tunnel should hole through this week .with fair progress. "There will then be a considerable amount of work in squaring” up, continued the report. ‘‘One bad spot of some 12 to 15 feet in length has been met where the rock is faulted. This will require permanently securing. ‘‘No progress has been made with the dam, as the stream has not yet come down to summer flow. The season generally has been a wet one on the Waitakaruru upper catchment. "Messrs. Briscoe and Co., the contractors for the cast iron pipes, valves, and specials, advise that part of the order will leave Auckland today, March 7.
“The Hume Pipe Company advised on February 26 that 7036 lineal feet of pipes had been manufactured, and laying should commence on March 10. “Tenders are being called for the supply and laying of maifls from DaL gety’s corner east and south-east. This will complete the mains over the water supply area.” The report was received. In connection with the matter of extending the mains over the Piako River to the Kopuarahi and Horahia ridings the chairman asked for an opinion as to when and where the meeting of settlers should be held.
It was decided to call a meeting at the Kopuarahi school on a date date to be arranged shortly.
