TENNIS.
PAEROA V. MORRINSVILLE. LOCAL PLAYERS SELECTED. An inter-'club match between tire Paeroa and Morrinsville tennis clubs will be played on the local courts tomorrow at 2 p.m. The following players will represent the local club : — Misses H. and V. Shand, C. and L Taylor, J. Ellis, K. O’Grady, A. Argali, Mrs Pitts, Messrs A. Ruston, H. and F. Thorp, G. Wells, t. Masters, M. Poland, F. Hayward, and J. Conolly. Players are asked to arrive early owing to the limited time available to' play all the matches. HAURAKI PLAINS TOURNAMENT. CONTINUATION OF COMPETITION. The Hauraki Plains Tennis Association’s handicap tournaments were continued at the courts of .the Ngatea club on Wednesday in good weather and good playing conditions. Further good exhibitions were given, particularly by the younger players, and many of the games were very exciting. Following are the results of the play Men’s Singles.—First, round: S. Third round: Scott and Osborne (2) beat Pike and Plummer (owe 6), 70 —57.
Ladies’ Singles.—First round ;■ Mrs Bertelsen (4) beat Miss D. Millei’ (8), 50—4'2. Second round: Mrs Clotworthy (owe 10) beat Mrs Bertelsen (4), 50 —34 ; Miss Green (4) beat Mrs O’Loughlin (owe <-'5), 50 —30; Miss Rogers (10') beat Miss M. Miller (8), 50—25 ; Miss Benny (owe 2) beat, Mrs Hudson (owe 2), 50—48 ; Miss Hayward (6) beat Mrs Smallfield (14), 50—29. Third round : Mrs Clotworthy (owe To) beat Miss Green (4), 50 —46 ; Miss Rogers (10) beat Miss Duffy (owe 25), 50—46. The balance of the matches will be played to-morrow, if time.permits, at the same time as the finals of the championship matches. The programme will be a long one, and the first, games will commence at 10 a.nr. sharp. Refreshments will be available on the ground, and there, will h°t be a stop for lunch.
