TURUA TOWN BOARD.
REGULAR MEETING. The Turua Town Board met On Wednesday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over the (following: Messrs C. Scott, J. Schmidt, J. H. Johnston, J. T. Davies, S. G. Williams, and J. McConnell. The clerk, Mr J. E. Green, was in attendance. OPARIA ROAD. The action of the works committee in accepting the tender of Mr L. Henwood at 3s per yard for; carting metal to Oparia Road was approved. BRIDGE RAILS. The works committee was empowered to have guard-rails erected on the bridges over the Willow drain and at the Piakc, Road corner. STATE OF FOOTPATHS. The state tff t.he footpaths in the township was mentioned by Mr Williams, who urged, that the weeds and grass, which were overgrowing the paths, should be cut. The matter was left to Mr McConnell to arrange. Mr Johnston pointed cut that an oak tree planted near the post office comer should be removed in the near future, as it would obtsruct the view of motorists. The works committee was given power to use the metal chips at present on the concrete road (for improving the footpaths. PARKING OF CARS. Mr Johnston drew attention to the fact that during wet weather motorcars could net be parked on the grass near the public hall, and it was probable that they would be parked on the bitumen road. Members commented that it was up to t.he Hall Company to provide a parking place. Other members observed that when the concrete road was cleared of metal it would most likely be used. Mr Davies drew attention to the fact that motor-cycles were parked at night under shop verandahs. The chairman said that in addition to parking motor-cycles and bicycles on the footpaths, riders seemed to prefer the paths to the road. The clerk pointed out that all these matters were covered by the provisions of the Police Offences Act, and anyone could lay an information and secure a conviction against the offenders. BENZINE PUMP. Mr J. H. Johnston was granted permission to have a benzine pump erected on the kerbside in front of his garage. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £l3 10s were passed for payment. dog tax. The appointment of a collector of d< g taxes was left in the hands of the chairman, and the clerk was instructed to order sufficient dog collars. The tax will be the same as in previous years.
