PTOMAINE POISONING.
FIVE SISTERS STRICKEN.
THREE OF THE VICTIMS LIE.
LONDON, January 3.
Another dealth—making three in all—took place yesterday in connection with a ptomaine poisoning mystery at Ballynagard, four miles 'from Londonderry.
The affected persons were five sisters named Quigley, who carried on a dressmaker’s business, and their man-servant, Frank Doherty. Mincemeat eaten at breakfast on Christmas morning is suspected of being t»e cause of the poisoning. One sister, Rose, aged 56, died on Friday night; Kate, aged 53, died on Saturday morning; and Sarah Ann, aged 65, died yesterday morning.
The fourth sister, Margaret aged 48, is. lying in a critical condition, while the fifth, Mary, is still very ill The man Doherty made a quick recovery and nursed the sisters, but it was not till Friday that a doctor was called in.
An aunt of the women, Mrs Sarah Quigleys an octogenarian, died from shock on learning the news of her nieces’ fate,
A woman, Annie White,, aged 55, of Queen Street, Govan, Glasgow, d*ed on Saturday from food poisoning. On Friday, with other members of the family, she partcok of a beefsteak r ie which had been purchased. Hannah, aged 28, and Mary, aged 25, daughters of the woman, and her son-in-law, Hugh Campbell, were removed to the infirmary suffering from poisoning. Mr White, the husband, and another daughter, who had some of the pie suffered, no ill-effects.
