OBJECTION WITHDRAWN.
KEREPEEHI ROADING LOAN. COMPROMISE EFFECTED, Objection by a section of settlers to the Hauraki Plains County' Council’s proposal to raise a loan as sanctioned at a recent poll for the metalling 'ft certain roads in the Kerepeehi riding has now been overcome, and a compromise lias been effected between all parties. A hope in this direction was expressed by Cr. Fisher, representative of the Kerepeehi riding, at the last council meeting, and at his suggestion a conference of settlers and the council was held at Ngatea on; Wednesday afternoon. It lasted for several hours, and was in camera, but the proceedings were amicable and the objectois very fair. As a result the petition of the objectors, which was to be given a further hearing at the Magistrate’s. Court Thames, yesterday, was withdrawn to save further legal expense. Details of the agreement arrived at will not be known until the matter comes before the full council next month, but it is understood that the basis was .that the expenditure on Kaikaku Road was to be limited .to £lOOO, thereby lessening the amount of the special rate. Another alteration was to delete the authority to pay the interest and sinking fund for the first year out o'f the loan, thereby making it necessary to strike a rate for the first year, but a smaller rate as interest would not have to be paid on interest.
