HOSPITAL REPORTS.

THE THAMES INSTITUTIONS* PROGRESS DURING JANUARY. The following reports were presented .and adopted at Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board :— SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The medical superintendent (Dr. W. Sowerby) reported 94 admissions, oi whom 77 had been discharged, 64 patients remaining at da't.e. Fourteen out-patients had been tr.ated, involving 62 attendances. Ther.e had been 52 operations and 4 deaths. Dr. Moir coir.menced duties on February 3. MATRON’S REPORT. Matron K. M. Ansenne reported 10 births at the maternity annexe. Nine patients had been admitted, and four women and four babies were remaining at date. In connection with fourth-year nurses’ salaries, two nurses claimed that they were benig paid at the rate of £55 yearly, whilst five other fourthyear nurses were paid £75 annually after, passing the State examination. The matron had net been able to .explain the reason to the satisfaction jf the nurses, and hoped the board would be able to do something in the ■matter. The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) suggested that the matter of the nurses’ salaries be. 'referred to the nurses’ committee. Mr Parfitt said that the matter should b$ considered by the committee, and a report made to the board The salaries could be made retrospective if desirable. This was seconded by Mr Lange. Mr Lange moved as an amendment that the increase <js recommended by the matron be granted. Mr Danby seconded and added, that where there had been distinct ability shown the salary should be commensurated with he ability and service. The chairman said the board must define its policy and stick- to it. Mr Parfiitt thought the resolution was quite in order and desirable. The amendment was Jost, and the resolution carried with the vote of the chairman. TARARU HOMES. The report of the superintendent of the District Hemes, Tararu, featured the appreciation of the inmates, and the. kindness and generosity of Thames residents in providing Christmas Cheer. The Homes now hold 16 inmates. COAL CONSUMPTION. The engineer (Mr A. M. Somerville) reported .a coal consumption of 28 tons 8 hundredweight. DISTRICT NURSE. The district nurse, Miss K. M. Jarrett reported 23 attendances, for which £5 3s 6d had been received In fees. Ten Maori pahs had been visited. The Patetonga district nurse, Mrs McNamara, reported ten attendances for which fees amounting to £2 Is were received.
