DRAINAGE BOARD UNION.
QUESTION OF SUBDIVISION. MATTER FOR UNITED BOARD. The Assistant Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs has written to the Horahia Drainage Board acknowledgnig receipt of the suggestions on matters connected with .the proposed union of the Horahia and Hauraki Drainage Districts. These suggestions had received very careful consideration. With regard to the Question of subdivision it was noted that the two boards had been unable to come to an agreement, but it was not thought advisable to adopt the Horahia board’s suggestion Of referring the matter to the Lands Drainage Department Failing any agreement being_J aYrived at between the two boards • the a.mtter of subdivision was primarily one which will concern the board Of the united district which will have power under section 16 of the Lands Drainage Act, 1908, and section 2 of the Lands Drainage Amendment Act, 1920, to subdivide the district and fix representa .tion for subdivisions. As, therefore, the boards had been unable to come to an agreement, it was nst proposed to make provision for subdivision when issuing the Order-in-Council uniting tjie districts. Commenting on' the letter, members of the Horahia Board at its meeting yesterday stated that, the United would be the present members of both boards siting as -one body.
