The Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by his private secretary (Mr L. E. Johnson), paid an unofficial visit to Paeroa on Monday evening at the request) of Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P.
Messrs. A. J. Baker, inspection engineer and W. Dykes, assistant mechanical engineer, Public Works Department), Wellington, are in Paero.a an departmental business.
The death occurred late on Monday night at her home, Hereiaunga, of Lady Ward, aged 61, who has been ailing for some time. Deceased took a bad turn during the afternoon, and died peacefully in her sleep. A prime mover in the 'founding of the Wellington Girl Guides, Lady Ward did excellent work-ms president of the Victoria League, and was keenly interested in the Navy League activities. Her sons are Cyril and Gladstone, of Christchurch; Vincent and Pat, of Wellington; and her daughter, Mrs D. B, Wood, of Christchurch.
