PLAINS TENNIS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The Hauraki Plains Tennis Association met at Ngatea on Thursday last, Mr B. Frecklington presiding over Messrs C. Bertelsen, D. G. McMillan, A. H. McClean, and A. R. Vowles, secretary. ASSOCIATION LADDER. With the idea of assisting the selection of association representative teams it was decided some months ago to institute a ladder competition. A committee was appointed to investigate and report on the matter, and at Thursday’s meeting the. subject was advanced another stage , though the difficulties were Tully realised by delegates, but it was thought that the. differences would right themselves to a large extent. The rules for the conduct of the ladder were; approved by the association and ordered be circulated to clubs. The ladders submitted by the committee were as. follows :— Men.—G. L. Griffiths, M. O’Connor, D. Mol'fisworth, F. C. Robinson, W. E. Murphy, D. G. McMillan, S. Coppins, W. W. Averill, G. Elvin, G. Crisp, T. Alderson, E. Coppins, V. Clay, D. Murphy, V. O’Connor,. H. Candy, A. Otter, D. Pike., F. Plummer, A. R. Vowles, J. M. Devereaux, L. Cotter, G. Birkenhead, C. Scott, A. E. Ludlow, E. C. Smart, J. M. Murray, J. B. McMillan, G. H. Whitwell. Ladies.—Miss Duffy, Mosdames F. Clotworthy, F. Bird, O’Loughlin, Scott, Hudson, Bertelsen, Misses B. Duffy, E, Candy, H, Tizard, Benny, Beaver, M. Beaver, Mrs T. O’Carroll, Misses ’D. Miller, M. Miller P. Hayward. TOURNAMENTS. The ■ handicap tournament, for which entries close with the secretary o'f the association op Saturday next, will be played in two sections if the number of entries is as large as is anticipated. The matter will be decided when the draw is made. Entry fees will be the same as in previous, years, namely: Men’s doubles, ss; ladies’ doubles, 4s ; men’s singles, 3s ; ladies’ singles, 2s. Mr A. R. Vowle.s was appointed handicapper. The entries for the ladies and’ men’s championship singles and doubles will also close definitely on Saturday next, and the first games will be played on Saturday, 19th ins-., at such places as the tournament committee may decide. Fees will be the same as for the handicap tournament. The draw for both tourna--ments, and the necessary arrangements, will be a committee comprising the Kerepeehi and Ngatea delegates and the secretary. REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES. The secretary reported that he had invited an Auckland team to visit the Plains as scon as possible. It was decided to invite the Frankton sub-association to send a team to the Plains.
