In conversation with a follower of Ratana it was learned that it was not on account of Ratana apeparing before the, Court recently that the embargo has been placed on Wanganui tradespeople, states the Wanganui Herald. The embargo has been brought abou'M, it seems, through certain firms who have done well out of previous transactions with Ratana suddenly refusing credit. The Ratana movement, notwithstanding its merits and demerits, has influenced the. trade cf Wanganui very considerably for the past few years, and, while it was agreed that there was no reason why the tradespeople concerned should net protect themselves, it is alleged that the offending ones were unduly abrupt in their methods. The loss to Wanganui during the present gathering alone amounts to thousands.
