As an indication of the value of land which becomes over-run with tall fescue, as parts of .the. Haur.aki Plains will become, ff the present apathy in regard to the menace continues, it is interesting to note that tiie Orongo estate was the Crown at £32.10s an acre, and -ibe Government valuation when .the soldier settlers took possession was £5B an acre for the . situated sections down to £4O for those less favourably situated. Now the Government valuation is from £lB an acre down to £lo', and, in the opinion Of those competent to judge, is overvalued.
