NIGHT PLAY COMPETITION. BUTTONS AGAIN CHANGE HANDS. Interest in the night-play bowling competition continues to ba well sustained on the local green. lOn Thursday Hale’s team challenged T. L. Williams’ team for the buttjons, and a keen game was 'fought out, resulting in the challengers winning by 6 points. The teams were: J. Brocket, C. Olson, J. Morland, T. Hale (skip) 24, v. R. Lowry, L. Gibb, G. H. Taylor, T. L. Williams, (skip) 18. Other games played on Thursday night were : A. Finnie, W. Forrest, C. Mettam, W. Purd'ie (skip) 19, v. W. Perston, J. Silcock, C. Pascoe, F. Marsh (skip) 18. This proved a most interesting game. On she last head both teams had scored 18 points, and an extra head had to be played to decide the winners.
During the evenings several of the fair sex have tried their skill at bowls, and it has been surprising the. way they have quickly mastered the rudiments of the game and become keen and enthusiastic. On Thursday night a wife had to succumb to the prowess of her daughter and husband, as follows : Miss McCullay, Latham, Brisden, W. McCullay (skip) 25, v. Mrs McCullay, Felix, Walmsley, W. Chamberlain (skip) 7. 1 PAEROA DEFEATS TE AROHA. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH. lOn Saturday afternoon eight rinks, from the local club journeyed to Te Aroha, where an enjoyable inter-club match was played. The greens were in splendid playing condition, but the heat was very oppressive, especially on the lower green, where there was no breeze to cool the existing conditions. At the conclusion of A jhe> match it was found that Paeroa had won by the narrow margin of five points. Following are the details, Paeroa. players being mentioned first in each instance :—
