BOROUGH YARD NUISANCE.
Sir, —I must uphold the hands of your correspondent “Thoroughly 171sgused” in regard to the nuisance in the. borough yard. It, is /0 p.m., and sleep is almost impossible with the putrid, ghastly drains nearby welling its gruesome odours through every chink of the fire -station, in spite tightly jammed windows. The smell is deathly, and of the pit'! Then, there is a horse in the borough yard barging around amongst timber and making t,he most infernal din. In the morning when a man tries to make, up 'for some lost sleep the steam roller is getting up steam and chokes us us. with vile sulphurous 'fumes of smoke. Whose brain, may I ask, conceived the idea of building a fire station, in which men sleep, sacrificing their home comforts in the interests of the town, in this ridiculous place ? However, if something is not done to this diabolical drain soon, we shall be. putting the Black Death in the shade. ‘ w NIGHT FIREMAN.
