WOMAN’S LOSS.

MISSING DIAMOND PIN. LABOURER FOR TRIAL. The story of h«w’ a stranger had become infatuated with her diamonds, and of how she missed a stone valued at £4O, was related at the Central Police Court, Sydney, by Kathleen May Day, a married .woman, living at Bondi. Henry Seaton (33), labourer, was charged wtih having stolen a. diamond pin, the property of Mrs Day. Mrs Day stated .that defendant approached her one day, near the Bondi ’bus rank, and told her he. knew her father. "Defendant was mistaken,” she said, "but next day he called at my home, at Bondi, and said he would like to have a chat over different things concerning myself and my father. He had dinner with us that day, and, in the course of conversation, he said he would like me to go to 1 his sister’s place, at Cremorne. He said she would be sure to admire my diamonds, and aslked me t° wear them. . \

We arranged to go to Cremorne on the following day, but .when we arrived at the wharf, at Circular Quay, the boat had just gone. Defendant suggested walking across to the tram shed and back, but when he got to the tram shed he wanted to walk up Macquarie Street. We did so, and on the way defendant told me how much he admired a diamond pin of mine. He took jt, out of my blouse, and I asked for it back. He refused to give it to me, and I got annoyed, and threatened to get assistance. Defendant thereupon said, “If you call out, or make a noise, you will never see daylight again !’ He ran down the steps, and told me not to move. That was the last-1 saw of him.” Defendant was committed for trial.
