STEADY PROGRESS SHOWN; A BIG UNDERTAKING. The contractor for the new theatre building, Mr W. W. Scott, is making steady progress with its erection. Already the huge mass of brick and. concrete work is assuming shape., and it is now possible to form an idea of the building, which will be the largest in Paeroa. Towards the end of next week it is expected that the. whole tff the heavy work will be completed. The subdividing of the ground floor into sax shops, will then be proceeded with. The billiard-room is now nearing completion, and will be ready for occupa- ■ tion towards the middle of next month. In the main building the huge reinforced concrete pillars and abutments are completed, and a number of workmen are engaged on the construction of the. 34ft concrete walls for the auditorium of the theatre; The boxing from around the stairway leading to the foyer and offices was removed yesterday morning. The first floor, which is supported by the principal pillars and measures. 81ft, by 44 ft, is completed. In the construction of this floor alone 80 yards of concrete were required. The next < ' move will be the subdivision of this floor for offices, etc. On the ground floor workmen are now busily engaged putting in dividing walls and entrances for the shops. Over, twenty men are engaged at present on the building, and Mr Scott states that the work will be completed well, within the specified time, which is June next. Some idea of the size of the undertaking can be gauged by the fact that over 500 cubic yards of concrete will be required, also approximately 100,000 bricks, 70,000 super feet of tim- J her, and £9OO worth of steel for rein- S 'forcing. a|
