PARTICULARS OF FEAR’S FALL.

WELL ABOVE THE AVERAGE.

Rain fell at Kerepeehi on as manydays last year as. there were days on which no rain fell. Rain was recorded at the Lands Olhce, Kerepeehi, on 183 days, the total for the year bejng 55.53 inches.

Dming the previous year there were 165 wet with a total <-f 37.64' inches, and during 1924 the amount was 60.37 inches in 169 days. With the exception o'f 1924 the. past year has the highest total since gauging was commenced at Kerepeehi, in 1913, the average annual fall about 42 inches.

Although over 2 inches of rain has fallen so far this year the tntal for December was only 3.69 inches

Light, falls were recorded on 15 days during last months, and 'for the last nine days of the year the total was 2.57 inches. The highest daily total for December was for the 24 hoiirs. ending at 8 a.m. on Boxing Day, amount being .58 inch. The record for the la-t 14 jears shows that the rainfall for December was either very little or very great. The. average f< r the period is t.BS inches.

Lands Department employees commenced last week to construct a new bridge, on the Kaihere road ovej- the Waikoura stream. A deviation and temporary bridge were constructed some months ago, but with the heavy traffic and bad weather the road now appears to be very lad. However, there is a good depth of fascines, and the chaiices of a vehicle .■ becoming bogged are. i emote. At present, owing to the almost, impa.ssaole state of the Puhanga canal road, due to the wet weather, there is little other than local traffic on the read. The ne,w bridge will probably be available for traffic towards the end of this month.
