PAEROA POST OFFICE.

BUSY CHRISTMAS WEEK. RUSH EFFICIENTLY COPED WITH. The. present Paeroa post office has experienced its first Christmas rush, and the facilities provided proved more than equal to the occasion. It is understood that there was .a marked increase in the. business handled compared with corresponding periods o’f previous yaars. iir both telegraphic and mailroom departments. All mails, both inward and ouwtard, were heavy, but the ample accommodatoin and up-to-date facilities available enabled the staff to cope efficiently with the rush, and with the utmost expedition. The local postmaster' and his staff are deserving of congratulation. on the efficiency, and courtesy maintained under . heavy pressure during Christmas Eve and the preceding days. The Piako County Council were in a hilarious mood at its last meeting (perhaps they had the Christmas feelin). Said one. to another across the table : “Have you heard the yarn of the Scotchman who leait a pound to a Jew ?” “No,” replied the innocent one. “And you never will,” burst forth the first councilor, to the accompaniment of a roar o’f mirth.
