THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1926. A MERRY CHRISTMAS.

The timely downfall of rain during the last 'few days has done muclij» add .to the wealth of this district and to arouse the Christmas, spirit in the. hearts of our primary produee,rs. The spirit of Christmas brings memories and impulses which make for a larger charity and a nobler generosity and a more sincere desire to forgive, and.' be forgiven. Nothing ih the local observance df- Christmas is pleasanter or more commendable than the increasing thought that is. being paid to those, who are entitled, for one reason or another, to special sympathy and consideration. Year by year organised efforts are being made in our cities, in provincial centres, and elsewhere to make Christmas a really bright and happy time for children and elderly people in orphanages and homes, as far as possible for the sick in hospitals, and for others whose lot is unfortunate. The spirit of Christmas is nowhere better or more worthily expressed than in the efforts that are being -made in these and other directions to ensure that the innocent pleasures of the festive season shall be enjoyed as- widely as. possible. There is plain evidence on all sides that New Zealanders are throwing themselves with untroubled zest into the round of Christmas' festivities. Seasonal trade appears to be excellent, holiday travel evidently is in high favour, and the adverse factor of unsettled weather is. doing little to impair the pleasures of the season. Once again it is being demonstrated that the greatest of our annual festivals is losing nothing of its traditional appeal. To our ever-increasing number of readers we extend our heartiest wishes for a very Merry Christmas. ~
