OHINEMURI COUNTY.
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. A special meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council was held on Tuesday morning, the chairman (Cr. H. M. Corbett) presiding over the following: Crs. C. Mason, W. F. Johnstone, F. C. Hubbard, A. D. McGuire, C. Hands, R. R. Morrison, C. E. Mace, A. R. Robinson, and the county clerk (Mr, RW. Evans). HIGHWAYS BOARD. The chairman reported at length on the result of the interview obtained with members o>f the Main Highways Board when in Paeroa Wt month, particuars of which have already been published in the “Gazette.’’ The chairman added that he thought thq ratepayers could consider themselves reasonably well protected. The requests from the council had been favourably, received by the members of the boaird,'and it was hopqd that much good would result from their visit. ■ ■’ '■’ . ; On the motion of Cr. Hubbard it was decided to record the thanks and appreciation oT the council for, the efforts of the chairman and Crs. Robinson and Johnstone in making such satisfactory arrangements. ' ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £BB2 10s Id on ,the general fund were passed for payment. CHRISTMAS GREETINGS. In extending seasonal greetings to the members the chairman said that there had been hard tiine.s and a kind of feeling df depression now and again, but it behoved them all to try and look on the bright side of things. Indications were .that the prospects for 1927 would be much better, and he hoped they would all experience .a really good season ®ind enjoy a happy and jolly Christmas. 1 Turning to Mr. Evans, the chairman asked him to accept and convey to the staff the council’s hearty good wishe,s for a happy Christmas and a bright, prosperous New Year. He hoped they would all spend an enjoyable holiday and return to work feeling benefited by’the rest. The chairman paid a special tribute to the splendid work performed by the assistant clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson, during the absence of Mr Evans. The council was appreciative of the good work done, and it was regretted that a more tangible recognition could not be made at the present time. To the Haura<ki Plains Gazette the chairman also extended greetings, and expressed the thanks of the council for the full and fair reports Of the council’s, activities during .the year. The greetings were reciprocated by those present.
