BOY SCOUTS.

ASSISTANT MASTER FAREIWELLED ENJOYABLE EVENING SPENT. In order to fittingly mark the conclusion of the year’s work the Paeroa troop of Boy Scouts were, tendered a social evening on. Wednesday night. The occasion was also taken to formally/ farewell Mr T. D. Davies, assistant scoutmaster ‘ and district secretary, whp is leaving Paeroa to reside at Tauranga. The chairman o'f the committee (MrC. H, Pascoe.) presided, and an enjoyable supper was partaken of, to which the scouts did ample justice. On behalf of the scouts the district commissioner (Mr E. W. Porritt) called upon Mr' Davies ,to accept a pipa and tobacco pouch as a slight -token of the. esteem .in which he was held. The commissioner referred in glowing terms to the great and unselfish serrendered to the movement by Mr Davies, and it was;, with sincere regret that the troop was losing him. Hearty good wishes were extended to Mr Davies for good health and prosperity. in his new sphere

Mr W. W. Scott, donor o'f the Scott Cup ifannual competition Uimbng the scouts of the district, was also present, and expressed his pleasure and congratulated the local troop, which were .the, first winners of the cup. A happy hour was spent in song and story, interspersed with musical items by the scout-band. In his acknowledgment of the presentation Mr Davies thanked those prqserit for their valued token of appreciation of his services. It had been a pleasure and a privilege to 'assist along the scout movement, and he hoped sincerely that it would continue to prosper and grow in the district.
