Corbett) moved that a letter be forwarded to the Mayor of Paeroa congratulating him and his colleagues on the success of the arrangements made in connection with the reception and welcome .accorded His Excellency the Governor-General at Paeroa on December 9. Forked lightning on Thursday last caused a temporary disconnection in most of the telephone lines in the south-aastern part of the Hauraki Plains. All the fuses at the Patetonga telephone oxchange and at the Kaihere and Torehape telephone offices were blown out, and between Torehape and Kaihere the four wires were apparently struck at three different places and burned through. Pekin, of Kaihere; at 7s 3d pQv cubic yard, was accepted. For the gravelling of 30 chains of the K®ii-here-Tore,hape road through the bush the tender of R. Hill at 8s 5d per cubic yard was accepted. Through the pressing invitation of a wide circle of clients and customers Mr W. H. Presswood, Jeweller and Optometrist, of Thames, has commenced business in Paeroa, ’and is installing a wide range of new goods for the Christmas season. The new shop is near the “Gazette” Office.*
