HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING. The Hauraki Drainage Board met at Turua on Friday, Mr G. Gray presiding over the' following: Messrs D. G. McMillan, J. Hamilton, J. Mules; R. H. Heappey, and the clerk (Mr J. E. Green). .GUMTOWN DRAIN. Mr J. A. Bennett w®iited upon the board and presented a petition, which he urged should be adopted and put in hand at once. The petition was signed by Messys K. C. Fox, W. McKee, M. Clark, J. A. Bennett; W. Urquhart; G. Zeigler; A. C. Scott, Jas. Newman, and T. H. White, ratepayers of the Te Kauri .area, and pointed out that at meeting held recently the member for the Te Kauri area (Mr McMillan) had stated that there was between £BO and £9O set aside for improving the drain at the front of Newman’s section and for lowering the flood-gate. The petitioners desired this work proceeded with as soon as possible. Mr McMillan stated that the money would be available when the subsidy was collected. It would be desirable to get an estimate of the cost of thework. The chairman said .that the matter had not yet been discussed. It was decided that the chairman. Mr Hamilton, and Mr McMillan inspect the area and employ someone to prepare an estimate of the The chairman assured Mr Bennett that the matter would receive favourable consideration by the board. ' CENTRAL LOAN. The clerk reported that the matter of the new loan for the central loan area was well in hand. The roll hajd been prepared and advertised and the petition was ready for signing. The rate was 13-32 d on A class land,. 9-32 d on C class lanl, and 5-32 d on unimproved valuation of the land classified as C. The amount of the loan was £loo'o, and the purpose Was for improving and erecting flood-gates in the Thames Valley outlet and Te Kauri No. 1 drain, improving Wharepoa Road north drain and the Willow drain, stop-banking the Waihou River 'from the Willow drain to Daily’s outlet, and Tor constructing a| new drain from the Willow drain to the boundary of Taylor’s section. Surveys would be undertaken by Mr E. F. Adams, in accordance with a decision of the two drainage boards
