POWER BOARD SERVICE.
STATION AT TURUA* TROUBLEMEN NOW AVAILABLE. The Thames Valley Power Board’s synchronous condenser station at Turua was, brought into operation on Friday afternoon last. The purpose of the is to make up the losses in power incurred in transmission 'from the Waikino feeder station and to keep the voltage steady. This benefit will be apparent throughout the whole of the district, but more particularly on the Hauraki Variations in voltage due; to switching in circuits cause a flickering of lights and .a variation in the speed of motors, and a fall in voltage causes motors, to run slower than usual. This is detrimental for cream separation. The machinery is entirely automatic, but with the establishment of the station provision has been made for two troublemen to be stationed At Turua to relieve the staff of the Ng 3 *- tea depot. The station is connected to the board’s and the post office telephone systems', so consumers of power will have little difficulty in getting into communication with the troublemen.
