* Among the many people yho were, presented to' the Governor-General yesterday was the old local Maori, veteran Wa,e Te Kuto. His Excellency appeared to greatly enjoy the old Maori’s account of a battle in which he fought.
Following the completion of the Government audit inspector’s investigation of the books of the. Waihi Borough Council sixty further . counts are to be preferred against the; late town clerk (Mr J. J. Ritchie), who-, in the first instance, was charged with the theft of the su.m of £34 7s, the property of thg said council. The additional counts involve, approximately, £7OO, and include charges of 'forgery and falsification of the books of the council.
The final meeting of the management committee o'f the Paeroa Athletic Club prior to the sport?, which take place to-morrow, was held in Mr Bain’s Rooms on Wednesday evening. Generous donations to the sports -"funds by Mr E. P. Fathers, of the Commercial Hotel, and Messrs: Campbell and Ehrenfiried, proprietors o'f the Paeroa Hotel were thankfully received. Duties of officials for the sports were discussed and finalised. ATI events, will be announced five minutes before the race, and a/1 races will start strictly to time. Following discussion, it was. decided to open the high jump handicap at 4’ft, with a rise of 2in up Bin, and a rise of lin above 4ft Bin. It was also decided to restrict the ladies’ rac® to females 21 years or over.

Owing to a mishap t(oi the r.uddqr of the steamer Taniwha on the trip 'from Paeroa to Auckland on Wednesday night it was necessary to dock her on arrival. The auxiliary scow Tuhoe has taken up the running, and is leaving Pa.eroa to-night, taking cargo only. It is expected that, the Taniwha will resume her, usual running fnom Auckland on Sunday.

The hakaj>y the Boy Scouts, led by Scout Major Chamberlain, greatly appealed to the Governor-General at the local domain yesterday. The 58 scouts on parade put plenty of vim into the words, and actions, and were heartily applauded..
Work on the tunnel Tor the Hauraki Plains West water supply spheme commenced on Tuesday last,. The contractor. hopes to find suitable stone in the tunnel for use in the construction of the dam.
The simple frendliness of Sir Charles and Lady Fergusson was freely commented upon at Paeroa yest-er-lay. During the few short hours the Governor Generaj. was ’at Paeroa. he shook hands with hundreds of people. Although the time at his; disposal was limited, His Excellency never. Tailed to give a kindly greeting or add a cheering word or two to those, with whom he came in contact.
Among the many decorations displayed on the business premises at Paeroa yesterday was a sign at Mr D. J. Evans’ bearing the inscription “Cymru Am Byth,” which, translated, means “Wales for Ever.” The Welsh national flag, depicting a red dragon above the words “Y Ddraig Goch,” was also displayed.
The South Auckland Land Board will meet on the 14th instant to discuss the report of the 'recent inquiry into Patetonga affairs. The Minister of Lands has advised Mr J. F. Mayn that the technical details, were under consideration, and the result woull be available early in the new year.

Members of the Haui'aki Plains County Council spoke very highly on the,ir return to, Ngatea yesterday o'f the organisation at Paeroa of the reception to the Governor-General. The whole function was as well arranged as; possible, and passed off remarkably Well.
