TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. - The monthly meeting of. the Turua Board was held on Wednesday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over Messrs J. T. Davies, S. G. Williams, J. McConnell, J. Schmidt, J. H. Johnston, and thq clerk (Mr J. E. Green). SETTLEMENT WITH COUNTY. The chairman reported that he had interviewed the county chairman in regard to the financial adjustment between the board and the council. Mr ■W.alton had gone to a great deal of •trouble and ha,d given a detailed statement up to March 31 last. The statement, which comprised eight pages of foolscap, was read and explained. Briefly, the position a<t March 31 was that the board was indebted to the county for £2ll 4s Bd, but when the outstanding rates were collected the debt would be reduced to £lO3. The chairman said he had gone into the matter very thoroughly .and was fuflly satisfied. He would like all members; to spend some time making themselves familiar with the document. PILES AT WHARF. A letter was received from Mr Si J. Laughlin concerning the piles at the Turua wharf. He asked if .the board could suggest any further action.. It was decided thM Mr Laughlin be thanked for his efforts, .and that he be advised that the board, would never be satisfied until the piles were removed, but at the present time it did not appear that much good would result from further agitation, REPAIRS TO BITUMEN. Mr McConnell reported on the experiment conducted by him of using tar before bitumen for repairing weak places; and cracks in the bitumen roads. The work .appeared to be very satisfactory indeed, and much better than if bitumen alone was used. The tar seemed to penqtratei the cracks well, and also give a clean surface, to which bitumen adhered better thd,n to a dirty surface. GARAGE ON ROAD.
An application was 'received from the Thames Valley Power Board for permission to erect a motor garage in front of the .transformer station on Piako Road whch, though across the drain, abutted the roaid. The garage would be removed when, desired by the Town Board on 14 days’ notice being given.
Permission was givqn on the terms asked.
OPARIA ROAD.
The chairman brought up the matter of the bad state of portion of Oparia Road. The County Council collected rates from the back portion Of the farms using the road as their outlet, and in his opinion council should assist the board, in. the: maintenance of the rosd.. It had recently been damaged by parting for road work elsewhere.. On the motion of the chairman it w'ais decided to .ask the County Council to metal about seven chains at the southern end of the road.
