CRICKET.

MEETING OF PAEROA CLUB.

SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOWN.

A meeting of the Paeroa Cricket Club was held at Mr W. Bain’s rooms last night, Mr J. M. Fox presiding over an attendance of about a dozen members.

APPLICATIONS FOR MATCHES. The Aongatete (Bay of Plenty) Cricket Club wrote offering to visit Paeroa and play a match any time before Christmas, provided the; Paeroa club would return the match before the conclusion of the season. The Hauraki Plains Cricket Association wrote suggesting that an annual representative match should be played. It was pointed out that if the arrangement could be made it would help materially .to give cricket an .impetus in the district. Mr H. M. Shand remarked that it would be desirable if a fixture could be arranged, but o’wing to the Piako Association's fixtures being well forward it was doubtful if there was an available Saturday in view. After some discussion it was, decided to reply to both applications advising that no fixtures could be arranged until after the' completion of the second round, when the applications would be further considered and, if possible, the matches arranged. BOWLER’S SUCCESS.

The Piako Cricket Association forwarded a cricket ball, suitably inscribed, for presentation to Mr “Ted.” Edwards, winner of last season’s bowling average ' 'Mr Edwards was the recipient of hearty congratulations from the members on hisi meritorious record. * OFFICES ACCEPTED. Mr W. Marshall wrote accepting the office of club patron and wishing the members a successful season. Mr. J. P. Gamble wrote accepting the position of vice-president. He offered goods to the value of £1 fs as a trophy . to be won during the present season. A hearty vote of thanks Was accorded the writers. RESULT OF CONCERT. The, secretary reported that the net credit balance resulting from the recent concert was £7 18s 3d. Several members expressed the opinion that the position was very satisfactory. On the motion of Mr Shand it was decided to record the thanks and appreciation of the club to all who had assisted. Special thanks was- accorded Messrs Tams, Fox, Edwards, Jenkinson, a,nd Davis for the valuable assistance given in the undertaking. . PITCH IMPROVEMENTS. The Paeroa Domain Board wrote ’ accepting the offer of the club to lay water on to .the pitch, and in return for the work the rental of the ground for the season would be remitted. The board advised that the ground would be rolled with the steam roller at a cost to the club of £2. PURCHASE OF GEAR. The matter of purchasing two bats, new wickets and bails, and' another set of batting gloves was, left in the hands of Messrs Shand, Fox, and the secretary, with power to act. TEAM FOR SATURDAY. The following team has bqen selected to play Morrinsville, at Morrinsville, to-morrow:— R. K. Wilson, G. Stack, J. M. Fox, H. M. Shand, F. Pivott, W. Taylor, C. Roiton, T. Edwards, H. Tams, A. Jenkinson, C. Farrow ; Emergencies : C. _ Oakes, F. Davis, J. Goonan. Cars will leave the post office at 12.45 p.m. sharp.
