BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

TREES IN TAYLOR’S AVENUE. FURTHER DONATIONS SOLICITED. Some months ago members and supporters of the Paeroa Beautifying Society planted the railway side of Taylor’s Avenue alternately with Japanese cherry and Japanese maple trees. In all, about 80 trees wefie planted and staked, and in nearly every instance they are thriving well. The cherry trees have already bloomed freely, and have been much admired. As the trees grow their beauty will increase, a,nd in time that wide avenue, which forms one of the principal entrances to Paeroa,' will be one of the handsomest streets in the borough.

Owing to the limited finances, and in order to give local rtesiednts an opportunity to show some tangible evidence of their civic pride in the town, an appeal for donations to coyer the cost of the trees was made; It is stated with regret that the opporunity has not been readily availed of, thej total amount so fay received being only £5 6s 6d. The trees cos.t £l3 ss, and as a further £8 is required it has been decided to extend the closing date of the subscription list. Those who have not already done so are, earnestly invited to contribute. Each tree co'sts about 3s, and subscriptions may be forwarded to the secretary (Miss D. W. Butler), or any member of the society.
