DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. CHILDREN’S CONCERT. At no place on the Plains are there so many entertainments by childrien as at Tur.ua. The latest function of the kind was organised by Mesdam.es McKenzie, Tynan, and Walker, in aid of the funds of the Turua Library and Turua Tennis Club, and held on Thursday last befone a full house in the Town Hall.
(Opening with a, pianoforte solo by Miss F. Johnson, there 'followed a song by little Miss J. Gardiner and an item of military drill by six girls. Dressed, as a boy, Miss E. Johnson contributed a song, and this was followed by a fan dance by six small girls in Japanese costumes. Seventeen girls then gave an exhibition of physical drill, followed by a hally-ho dance by Miss J. McKenzie and a poi dance by Miss N. Taylor. After a short recitation by Miss J. Schofield, Misses Gardiner and McKenzie and other infants gave an item, follower by several hornpipes danced by a dozen girls. Miss D Pentecost contributed a song, and three encores were accorded a pafty of small boys who gave a. Maori haka, the first half of the programme ending with an exhibition eff step-dancing by girls.
The second half of the programme also contained fourteen items, the children featured being Misses Clotworthy, F. Reid, I. Schmidt, _M. Murray, A. Henry, N. Truelove, and F. Johnson. The items, were brought on quickly, and all were well received and deservedly encored.
