The Hauraki Plains county clerk reports that a final effort to collect arrears of rates has been made before taking proceedings. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for payment in a number of cases. Some have been paid in full, and summonses are being prepared against others who have ignored all demands, for payment. The expenditure of a £6OO Public Works grant on the WaitakaruruMangatarata road aa-®s advocated by Cr. Harris at yesterday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. It Avas explained that' the Waitakaruru riding Avas this year getting half the Government money voted for the Pla.ins County, and .to lift this money Avould give the riding tAvo-thirds of the allocation and hold up some work in another riding. Nothing was therefore done.
