CRICKET CLUB CONCERT

LAST NIGHT’S ENTER,TAiINMENT.

RESULT A FINANCIAL SUCCESS.

The concert held under the auspices of the Paeroa Cricket Club at the Gaiety Theatre last night proved a most enjoyable entertainment. The attendance was not very large, but those who braved the, elements felt that they had been amply rewarded. The fact that each artist was enthusiastically .encored in turn bore evidence that the lengthy and varied programme was thoroughly appreciated. Without making invidious distinctions, the recitations contributed by Miss Audrey Wood, a tiny tot scarcely five years old, were cleverly done, and showed that she had un-. usual ability and confidence. The hula-hula dance presented by Miss Ena Sanft in full Hawaiian dress, and accompanied by the ukulele, was well received and deservedly encored. A humorous sketch entitled “Harmonious House-hunting,” staged by the “Irrespolnsibles,” a clever company of local artists, provoked mucti amusement and was well received.

The following was the, complete programme : —

Overture, Symphony Jazz Orchestra ; song, “Absent,” Mr .1 Darbyshire ; recitation, ‘-‘Mai an>ly on Marrying for a Living,” Mrs Hall ; song, “The Hills of Donegal!,” Mr M itc hell; dance, Miss Phyllis Pivott: song, “Sunshine off Your Smile,” Mrs Darbyshire ; saxaphone solo, Mr J. Pickford; recitation, “Hopeful Hands,’ Miss Audrey Wood ; sotag, “Moonlight,” Mrs Wood and company ; selection, Symphony Jazz Orchestra ; •'ketch, “Harmonious House-hunting,” “Irresponsibles” ; recitation, Mr Slyfield ; dance, “Hula Hula,” Miss Ena Sanft; song, “Love sends a little gift of roses,” Mrs Wood ; violin solo, “Intermezzo Cavalleiria Rusticuna, ’ Mrs Hall ; song, Mr Ray Foster ; the items concluding with “God Save the King.”

For an amateur show the entertainment was well arranged, and the stage setting was appropriately carried out qnd reflected great credit on the promoters.

At the conclusion of the entertainment the Cricket Club’s patron, Mr W. Marshall, extended hearty thanks to the public for the support accorded the club. A special vote of thanks was also accorded the artists and the; orchestra, all of whom gave their services gratuitiously in order to assist thq club.

As a result of last night’s: function the club will benefit by a credit balance of about £6, and this radney will he judiciously spent in purchasing new equipment, which is urgently required.
