OPENING OF TENNIS SEASON. The Ngatea Tennis Club’s courts were opened for the season on Saturday last in the presence of about fifty players. Though the wet weather affected the attendance, no rain fell during the, afternoon, a.nd, on account of their saturation from Friday night’s heavy downpour, the chip coiurts were n good playing order. This was wy gratifying to the club, as since its formation it only had a couple of members who took any interest in the state of the courts, with the result that at times last season the regular maintenance required by chip courts was - neglected and an 'Unfavourable impression was created in the minds of some players who were used to’ hard courts. Although there is so little interest taken in teunis by Ngateo people, the club has some stajunch friends, notably Messrs T. A. McClean, A. Douglas, and T. Mclnerney, and it was largely due to their assistance that the courts were prepared for opening day. Comparatively little work will be required to maintain the courts in good order, a.nd if the club can obtain a sufficient membership for a team it should be able to keep the courts in good drder for big matches if required. PATETONGA. DANCE The organisers of the series of dances in Ngatea in aid of the Catholic Church building fund held a dance in the Patetonga Hall on Thursday evening. FerraH’s bus took a full load from including Mr J. Rooney, who provided the dance music, and Mr J. Neate, who acted as M.C. There were about 30 couples present. The play “Lord Richard in the Pantry” was presented ajt the Turua Town Hall by a party of Thames amateurs on Thursday evening. Todd, with Miss N. Wilson as Mrs Sylvia Gaytorh, Miss D. Clark ac Lady Violet, Miss R. Agnew as Evelyn Lovejoy, and E Kelly as the, cook. The other parts were taken by Mr H. Gallop, Mr D.
