PAEROA DEFEATS TE AROHA. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH. The second matches in the first round of the Piako Cricket Association's competition were played on Saturday. The local eleven were engaged in a reach with the Te Aroha A team at the Paeroa Domain. Altough the weather was fine there had been heavy rain on the previous night, and .as a consequence the pitch was. very soft, and it was only with the aid of a copious dressing of sand that it was made fit to play on at all. The dead condition of the wicket no dolubt puzzled bowler and batsman alike, and mitigated against big scores being made. Te Aroha batted first, and majde 39. Gemmell wa ; s the only man to reach doublfe figures, compiling a good ten runs before being run out. The top sooner for Paeroa was W. Taylor (26), while Stack played a clever innings for 24. By hard hitting R. Wilson compiled 15 runs in a very short time and was then caught by Woodroffe. The final scores showed that Pae,roa had won by a margin of 33 runs. Following are the details :—

Bowling Analysis.—Houghton took 3 wickets for 29 runs ; Jamieson, 3 for 20 ; Wood, 4 for 22.

HAURAKI PLAINS MATCHES. WINS FOR NEW CLUBS. The first of the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s inter-club matches were played on Saturday in fine weather, although on account o® the heavy rain on Friday night all the pitches were very wet. The newly formed clubs at Turua and Ngatea secured wins, as also did the Kopuarahi club. Playing at W.aitakaruru. the Kopuarahi te l am knocked up 37 runs and dismissed W’aitakaruru for 12 runs in each of the two innings. By sending Waitakaruru in to follow, dn, Kopuarahi secured a three-point win. At Pipiroa the home .team batted first and made 38 runs. Turua in the first innings made 16 runs, but the home team only secured .another nine runs, and just before the call of time the visitors had topped the sco/re by one run for five wickets down, thereby securing a three-point win.
