commencement of the season. PAEROA DEFEATS KARANGAHAKE. The local cricket season commenced in earnest on Saturdaj’ afternoon, when the first games in the Piako Cricket Association’s' competition were played in good weather. The Paeroa eleven journeyed to the Mackaytown Domain, where a. match was played against Karangajiake. The Paeroa team liiVi an easy win, defeating Kai’angahake by 102 runs. The Paeroa captain was in great form, ajnd in addition to compiling 71 runs in good all-round batting he later performed the hat-ti?ick while bowling. W. Taylor (27), J. M. Fox and C. Rolton with 13 runs each, were .the only other players to reach double figures. The top scorer for Karahgahake was F. Dare, with 18 runs, and G. Sale contributed a neat 15. During the match the visitors were hospitably entertained to afternoon tea. Following are the details :—
