In Older to consider matters reiun nig immediate attention a special niveung of the Paeroa Domain Board was held at the Borough Chambers un Tiiu.sday mgHi. The chainuai’. (iur W. Marshall) presided, and the foiio»mg were also present: Messis P. E. Brenan, H. J. Flare, J- W- Silcock, G. P. de Castro, J. Pinder, K A. i-'orritt, and the secreiary (Mr W. C. Alexander). The following recommendai-ons
were considered: — (1) "Croquet Club : That the application from this club for. removal of ptirdtion in their pavilion be granted a,nd the timber used in placing the veiling in the room. The club b© * otl ' tied that if a tennis, club is. formed and requires .the use of the pavi ion. it must be shared; afcw, the hockey club will have the use of this room during their season. Estimated cos £3 ss -” The recommendation agreed o A letter was also received from the club suking the board to reconsider its decision to increase the rent by £5, and pointing out thftt owing o the board disturbing the lawns to lay. down new storm-water Pipes the lawns were not available, and as a consequence the club’s season had been shortened. Mr Silcock intimated that all the lawns would be available for play during the coming week, Mr Hare said that in view of the increased facilities to be provided be thought the rent was reasonable. Mr Pinder said he did not think t , lawns were in as good a condition as other croquet lawns in the distucr, and the board should not be too ha.r on the club. The chairman replied that it wab a great pity that it had been necessary to disturb the greens for the stofim-water drainage, but it was hoped that a permanent improvement had been effected. It wa£ over nine weeks ago since the drain had been filled in, and he was 1 at ,a lossj to know why there was not a better sole of grass on the disturbed area. in- that time.
Mr Hare intimated that if the extra rental meant that the players, had to increase, the amount cf their annual subscriptions to meet it he would be inclined to let the club down lightly, because it would be the husbands who. would have to bear the extra fees. Mr SilcoCk moved that the secretary be instructed to write to the club, drawing attention ,tp the i n * creased facilities provided and re questing it to view the increalsed rental in a favourable light. Seconded by Mr Hare and carried, Mr Pinder recording his vote against the proposal. (2) “Cricket Club : That the application from this club to have .the field rolled and water supplied to the pitch is recommended. In view of the club paying all costs in connection with the water extension, their annual subscription for the- coming se.aon be remitted. A charge of £2 be made fdr the use of the steam-roller.” —Adopted (3) “Domain Seats: Several need repairs. Estimated cost £3.” —Adopted.
(4) “Bowling Green: A new gate, with posts, etc., complete, is required at the western entrance- Estimated cost £5.” After some discussioji it was thought that since the new conveniences had been re-erected the gate might quite well be done away with. It w.ac agreed that before doing so, the bowling club would be asked if it had any objection to the pi oposal.
(5) “ The dividing fence between playing field and greejife' is now completed, but requires painting. -It is suggested to have the pipe rail painted black, posts and gate white. Estimated cost £lo.”—Adopted.
(6) “Main, Mackay, King, and Arney Street Gates : It is suggested to have these painted at an estimated cost of £4.”—Agreed to.
(7) “Ta.rring_and Sanding : A small amount, is' required under the croquet pavilion verandah. Estimated cost, £1 10s.”—Adopted.
(8) “Ladies’ cloak Room : On the door of this room ,a notice “Ladies’ Cloak Room” should be painted. Estimated cost £l.” The chairman remarked that in all probability the work would not cost £l, but it all depended on the signwriter w’hep he came from Hamilton.
Mr Pinder said that local industry should be encouraged wherever possible. There was a local ratepayer who was a competent signwriter.
The suggestion was adopted. (9) “Pavilions: After a thorough inspection we find that both these buildings Ore deteriorating throfugh the want of paint and repairs, to spouting and down pipe. Tqnders for this work should be called for as soon as possible.”—Adopted.
(10) "Tennis' Courts : As there is nd prospect of the courts being required to any qxtent this season it is recommended that no money be spent on repairs.”—Adopted. (11) "Gorse and Blackberry: This, matter should be taken in hand as soon a,s season permits. Estimated colst £5.” —Adopted.
