HAURAKI DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. The Hauraki Drainage l Board met at Turua on Friday, Mr G. Gray presiding ovejr Messrs R. Baker, J. Mules, R. H. Heappey, D. G. McMillan, and the leerk (Mr J. E. Green). The meeting was the last of the present trustees before the election. ' INEFFICIENT DRAINAGE. The Turua agent for Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., wrote drawing attention to the neglected state of the drain alongside the saleyards. A dam at the Hauraki Road end blocked the outlet of the Hauraki Road frontage, while the two years’ growth of weeds and the siltage held up the, flow of water. Mr Mules said tlra.t the drain had riot been cleaned for two years a,s pigs from a neighbouring farm! had been injuring it. The pigs had since been removed. It was decided to accede to the request. DEFECTIVE CULVERTS. Mr D. Troughton, Turua-Netherton Road, wrote drawing attention toi the inadequate size of the pipes in his' outlet drain. At least 4ft pipes were necessary. A further request was that the culvert under the load should be lowered about 18 inches, to the level of the drain bottom. This should be done before the road was permanently surfaced.
Mr D. G. McMillan supported the contention of the complainant and advocated the granting of the request. Mr Henry was prepared to instal hew pipes if they were supplied. The work was authorised, the matter being left to the riding member for action.
The passing of the accounts, concluded the meeting.
