NGATEA. WEEKLY DANCES. The weekly dances organised on behalf of the Tennis and Football clubs of Nagtea are becoming very popular, attracting dancers from all parts of the Plains. At the dance on Saturday last there were about 80 couples present, but owing to the increased space in the Ngatea Hall since the dressing-TOoms have been removed there was no overcrowding. As usual Mr J. Rooney’s orchestra, supplied excellent music. There were over 50 players at the euchre tables. The first prizes were wofn by Mrs B. McMillan, and Mr T. McKay, of Kopuai’ahi, and the consolation prizes by Mr.s Barribal .and Mr Buchanan, of Ngatea. A welcome to the members of the Akare.ua Cricket Club, who were guests at the function, was’ extended by the M.C., Mr J. Neate. IVAITAKAKURU. CRICKET CLUB. After several fruitless attempts th© Waitakaruru Cricket Club held its annual ■ meeting last week, and the largeness of the attendance and the enthusiasm displayed augur well for the future of the game in the district. Mt H. L. Berney presided over an attendance of 25. Mr Berney was 'appointed president, selector, and, together with the secretary, Mr N. Hedges, delegate to the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association. The. committee appointed comprised Messrs A. McPherson, W. Vr«mbath, C. Stretton, N. Death,, and G. L. Griffiths. The club will play on a new pitch this season in Mr C. Hayward’s paddock. As the finances' of the club are at a low ebb it is proposed to hold a series of dances. HIKUTAIA. TENNIS CLUB SOCIAL. The hall .was surpassingly pretty on the occasion elf the social held by members of the Hikutaia, Tennis Club. The walls and gallery were tastefully decorated with greenery, and the arrayed with lilies, added a fresh appearance. ' Th© attendance was exceedingly good, and the financial result was; very satisfactory. Special attractions in the evening were .the vocal items rendered by Miss A. Martin and Mr Larcon (Thames), and th© “streamer waltz,” in which all the dancers eagerly participated.
The euchre prizes, presented by Mr V. Young, were keenly contested for. The winners were : Miss Leece and Mr J. Hamilton.
Mr Young thanked all. those who patronised the social and helped to make it a success.
