HORAHIA DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Horahia Drainage Board was held on Thursday last, Mr F. A, Kneebonfi presiding over Messrs W- McDuff, JM. Thompson, J. C. Miller, W. EL Hale. S. S. Murray, and the clerk, Mr W- EG. Willy. DRAINAGE PUMPS. The Thames Valley Power Board forwarded a report on the util'satiop of pumps to .assist drainage prepared by the board's engnieer. This report was. published several weeks ago in this paper. SHELLBANK DRAIN. Mr J. G. Miller wrote complaining ctf the state of the flood-gate on the Shellbank drain. It had npt worked satisfactorily for three years. The clerk reported that a new* floodgate was on the. sjite and would be installed as soon as the floed-water in the Piako River receded sufficiently to permit men to get into the drain. Mr J- C. Miller expressed the; opinion that the work should have, been done long ago. The foreman should be able to effect temporary repairs to prevent the gate blocking open. ORCHARD EAST DRAINAGE.
Mr J. C. Miller, junr., for and on behalf of th© interested settiers residing near Orchard East Road, wrote d'awing attention .to certain blockages in the Willow drajn. Three willow trees had been lying in the drain for several months, despite the fact that members of the board had been advised. The Te Kauri No. 1 outlet was now more than even a necessity, and the work should be done before next winter. Mr McDuff pointed out that the blockages were in the Ho’rahia Board’s area, and that hoard had been advised some weeks ago. Mr Thompson said that Messrs McMillan and Baker, of the Hauraki Board, knew of the blockages Several weeks ago. Mr J. C. Miller expressed the opinion that the Willow drain would never be satisfactory until all the willow trees’ had been removed. ACCOUNTS. : The payment during the month of accounts totalling £ll 17s 3d on the general account and £913 5s 3d on the loan account was appioyed, and accounts totalling £296 19s 4d on the general account and £257 2s 2d on the loan account were passed for paymetn. 'FINANCE. The Bank of New Zealand advised that £6ooo' worth of the board’s debentures had been S|Qld. The clerk reported that of this sum £5576 Is 9d would be available after paying interest, commission, etc. The board was committed to spend £5303 8s lid, le.aviing £272 12S lOd available for Price’s, Taipara’s, Kneebone’s, Miller’s, and the Shellbank drains. It was decided .to instruct the bank to hypothecate £4'ooo worth of debentures). THE SOLDIERS’ DRAIN. The tender of Mr D. Ereeg pf Is %d for improving 80 chains of the godiers’ drain wasi accepted. CLEANING. The matter of removing the duckweed from the ziz-zag portion of the Willow drain w.as left to the area member to arrange. The foreman was instructed to look into the matter of improving the roadside drain from the Louch-McDuff outlet to> Mr James’ se.ction. NEW WORK.
For the purpose of providing an outlet for Mr G. Newham’s property Mr Miller advocated taking over, improving, and extending a private drain from the factory ototlet through the middle of the sections. Levels made available by the Lands; Department proved that it was not possible to give, efficient drainage .to the Waihou river.
The project wasi supported, and Messrs Kneebone, Hall, and Miller were deputed to go into the matter, with power to act. An extension to Miller’s drain was advocated by Mr S. S. Murray, and it was agreed that Messrs Miller and Murray have power to act in the matter.
