Advice has been received by His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) from Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., that the Hon. K. S. Williams, Minisiter of Publiic .Works, accompanied by Messrs C. J. McKenzie, acting Engineer-in-Chief. L. B. Campbell, resident engineer, Auckland, and the. member, will leave Thames to-morrow morning for Matamata. En route a visit of Inspection will be made'of the flood areas and the settlers met in the Awaiti district. The Mayor has received no advice that the Ministerial party will break the journey at Paeroa.

A boy, aged 16 years, was. brought before Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., at the Juvenile Court, Paeroa, on Monday, charged with committing wilful damage. The parents’ evidence showed that the lad was put of hand, and in the interests of the other members of the family applicaion was made to have their son placed under restraint. The Magistrate agreed that the. parents had adopted the right course, and the boy was committed to the Borstal Insitute for a term of three years. It was explained to the parents that if the boy l.eiiaved himself and made good within that time they could apply to the Justice Department for his release.

The local registrar (Mr W. E. Ward) advises the following vita.l statistics for Paeroa for the quarter ended September 30 as follows, the figures for the corresponding period las.t year being in parenthesis : Births, 35 (26) ; deaths, 9 (4) ; marriages, 2 (6). During last month 16 births and 3 deaths were registered. There were no -marriages.

Wet and stormy wea.tber conditions continue to prevail locally. Rain has fallen on every day this mouth so far, and the ground at present is thoroughly saturated. A splendid growth of pasture has resulted, but it now requires, a week’s fine weather to dry up the inundated areas and put body into the grass and crops.

After being on the Hauraki Plains for a number, of years the Telegraph Department’s construction gang has removed temporarily to Kopu. On its return the gang will have work to attend to in connection with the cressings off telephone and the Public Works Department's high tension power mains. ,

Tlie engineer (N. G. McLeod) reported at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board that on account of the increasing demand tor electricity in the Paeroa borough extra mains had been run to give extra supply from the Hill Street transformer. The mains were being run via Miller Avenue and Kennedy Street Street.

Owing to the 'recent spell of wet weather the streams in the district have been in a flooded stajie, and local angler's have not met with much sport since the season opened on Friday last.

About sixty-slx chains of pOwer line on the Hopai West Road is now being changed from low tension-to 11,900 in order to increase the supply c'-f electricity.
