TROUT FISHING.

OPENING OF SEASON ON FRIDAY.

CONDITION OF LOCAL STREAMS.

The trotat-fishlng season in Ohinemuri opens on Friday next, October 1. Fish are reported to be, plentiful in the Waitawheta River, all the other streams are in excellent fishing condition. The Hikutaia and Komata streams are carrying a lot of fish, and everything points to a very successful season.

The regular..stocking undertaken during the last six years is now showing good results and the fish are firmly established. Regarding the Hikutaia stream, as there is every possibility of mining operations interfering with the trout, the secretary of the. Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society, Mr D. Leach, is of opinion that anglers should endeavour to fish the stream as much as possible from now on, while the fish a,re still available. Fishing licenses, may be obtained from the secretary at the usual figure of £1 for men and 5s for ladies and boys under sixteen. Mr Leach will gladly supply information to beginners as; to gear, locality, etc. Lady anglers can obtain good fishing in the Komata . stream, where the travelling is. good, the rdad following the river most of the. way and the holes and ripples being easy of access. The more adventurous angler will, of course, make his way to the Waitawheta, where ’the gdrges and glorious bush scenery add to the pleasure of a day’s fishing, a,nd where one often hooks on to a big fellow. To hook a ' five pounder in the gorge and feel the thrill and pull of your catch as he runs out fifty yards of silk in a rush, then the fast wind up as he comes back at express speed Or rushes through ripples and spray into the next hole, is one. of the many pleasures to- be obtained during a day spent on this magnificent stream. Anglers are reminded that the Rotorua and Taupo districts demand special license fees. this yoar. Most sportsmeh will, however,; content themselves with the large amount of fishing obtainable outside these special districts. If sport is the aim, and not mere bags, our own rivets in 'Ohinemuri offer splendid attractions. TROUT FRY. A supply of trout fry is expected to arrive during the coming month, and will be distributed in the various, streams by the members of the society who for years have re.hdered this voluntary service in a spirit of true sportsmanship.
