VALUE OF THRIFT.
SCHOOL SAVINGS HANNS.
INTRODUCTION AT PAEROA.
At Saturday night’s meeting of the Paero'a District High School Committee a letter was received from the Auckland Education Board in connection with the establishment of fe'clrol savings banks. It wa,s pointed out that in order to encourage, thrift amongst children the board had considered it highly desirable that, where possible, arrangements should be made for the establishment of school savings banks. It was recognised that the scheme could only be brought about, and operations made successful, by the earnest co-operation of school committees and teachers.
During the discussion that ensued Mr G. H. Taylor (headmaster) said that he thought it was very desirable to teach children the value of thrift, and he felt sure, that if the bank was established it would be wtell worth while.
Mr W. H. Blakeway said that he would like to see something done. A School savings bank should prove a very wise and sound institution.
Mr J. H. McDonald agreed, and gave it as hist opinion that many Of the children of to-day had little or no knowledge of thrift, or the value of money.
Mr R. J. Thorp supported the remarks of the previous speakers and advanced the opinion that many children had far too much money to spend.
In reply to the deputy-chairman (Mr W. Power) the.headmaster said that he would be quite willing to introduce a school savings bank. The matter ■was referred to the headmaster ahi secretary, with powei to act, '
