NGATEA. COMPLIMENTARY BALL. Since his arrival in Ngatea several months ago Mr J. Rooney has on numerous occasions provided free dance music for dances organised locally. As a mark of recognition Mr J. Neate initiated a movement to tender him a complimentary ball. The function was held on Wednesday eventing, and was undoubtedly one df the best balls held in the district for a long time. The need for a much larger hall at Ngatea: was demonstrated to a marked degree, for so la.rge was the, attendance that only about half the dancers present codld be on the floor. at a time.

The decorations of the hall were unusually attractive, innumerable paper streamers, paper flowers, and balloons being utilised. The dance music, provided By an orchestra of Mr Rooney’s friends, was of a very high standard, and the whole function was carried out in a manner which reflected great credit on the band of organisers working under Mr Nea<te. During the supper Interval Mr Neate spoke of the great services given ungrudgingly for the benefit of the community by the guest of the evening, Mr Rooney, and as a tangible mark df appreciation he presented Mr Rooney with a bulky envelope containing bank-notes.
