TURUA TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

COMMITTEE’S REPORT.

The Turua Tennis Club held its annual general meeting last Wednesday evening, the Rev. W. W. Averill presiding over a fair attendance, of members. The annual report was read as follows :—

“The Committee begs to report that the third year of the Turua Lawn Tennis Club has been another extremely satisfactory one, the position of the club having been consolidated toi a considerable degree generallyThe membership of .the club for the season, although not numerically so strong as during the previous record season, consisted of 27 men, 13 ladies, and 5 juniors, and must be considered satisfactory. This represents a loss of 14 members

“From a playing point of view the club was very successful, and its record is one of which thei members may well be proud. The ‘A’ team succeeded. in winning the Laidlaw Cup for the. third year in succession, thus winning it outright. The dub entered a challenge for the Howell Wiliams Shield for the first time, and by defeating Waitakaruru succeeded in carrying off this' trophy also. The ‘B’ team, which has several very promising players, was not so fortunate, but nevertheless acquitted itself very creditably. Outside matches were also played by the club against Thames and Paeroa, games which provided members of the club with valuable experience and which aroused keen enthusiasm:

“One of the courts has been tarred and sanded, and arrangements are now being made to hold a fete this month which, provided all members of the club co-operate and assist, should be the means of considerably reducing the bank overdraft. A number of' improvements to the courts and grounds are also urgently needed. “The balance-sheet shows the club to be in a satisfactory financial position, the total indebtedness having been reduced by approximately £6O during .the year. The overdraft limit was reduced £35, .to £3BO, leaving a satisfactory margin Tor the incoming committee to work upon. Members should note that notwithstanding strict economy’the sum of £B6 3s 2d was disbursed during the year as follows : maintenance and improvements, £l5 12s 7d.;. interest, £36 ; rates, £4 8s 10 ; sundries, £29 5s 3d ; petty cash 1 , 16s 6d. The item interest £36 deserves particular atttntion, seeing that reduction of the overdraft automatically reduces this amount. The overdraft is still very high, and it is. up -to the club to relieve thei guarantors at the earliest moment possible df the responsibility so generously undertaken by them to advance the, clean outdoor sport of tennis in Turua.

‘‘This report would hot be complete without reference to th<fee who helped to forward the interests of the club during the past season, and the Committee takes this opportunity of publicly expressing its sincere thanks to all helpers, and particularly to the ladies, whose catering and other efforts were highly appreciated.” ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The officers appointed for the season were as follows,: Patron, Mr S. S. Murray ; president, Mr A. H. Rogers ; secretary, Mr R. D. Macklowi; treasurer, Mr F. C. Robinson ; auditor, Mr J. E. Green ; delegate to the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association, Mr D. G. McMillan ; executive committee, Miss Phillips, Mrs Bell, Miss Mules, Messrs C. Scott, W. W. AverilK F. Clotworthy, and O.
