TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Turua Town Board held its monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over the; following : Messrs S. G. Williams, J. T. Davies, F. Olsen, J. McConnell, J. Johnston, and J- E- Green (clerk). PATCHING ROADS. The clerk was instructed to obtain quotes for suitable bitumen and metal for repairing the bitumen roads. PILES AT WHARF. The Thames Harbour Board wrote forwarding a copy of a resolution adopted at the last meeting advising that.it could not have the piles- at the wharf removed and expressing the opinion that it was in the best interests of the board that the piles should remain in their present position. The chairman said it was- charitable to think that the Harbour Board had overlooked the fact that the landing had been used for, so long to the detriment and risk of the wharf. As it had evidently been out to help- the Town Board and had looked with a blind eye on the board’s operations for two years he was of opinion that a letter of thanks should be sent. After caustically criticising the Harbour Board for half an hour or so for having closed a convenience used for two generations, and for having made the people of Turua suffer for all time as the result of a quarrel with a private company, the board purposely dropped the matter without the motion being carried. REPAIRING ROADS. The chairman reported that some of the hole.s in the roads- had been filled and a punt-load of metal was on the way to Turua. He was of the opinion that another puntload should be obtained from Puriri. A motion to that effect was carried. ’ PIAKO ‘ROAD BRIDGE 1 . Mr Olsen was deputed to estimate the quantities and prices of effecting repairs to the Piako Road bridge. ROLL OF HONOUR. In connection with the suggested renovation and removal to the Public Hall of the Roll of Honour Mr Mules asked for an expression of opinion as to the, best means of correcting the roll. Mr Williams suggested getting the assistance of the old settlers. A committee comprising Messrs Mules, McConnell, Scott, Olsen, and Green was deputed to deal with the matter. HITCHING RAIL. A vote of thanks was accorded the members who had donated the materials- and erected the horse hitching rail near the nursing home.
