A STREET COMEDY.
WOMAN IN THE MUD. APPARENTLY ENJOYING HERSELF. WELLINGTON, September 7. The eccentric behaviour of a woman created some amusement in IVillis Stret yesterday afternoon. Appearing from a shop, she commenced to abuse a couple, who moved on hurriedly. Th'e woman then sat down on the kerb in the pouring r .in, attracting further attention. She then got up and walked in front of a tram, causing the motorman to jamb on the brakes. Starting back, the woman slipped and sat down making no attempt to rise. Passengers on the trapi were on tip-toe, trying to see her. There was a delighted crowd on the sidewalk. The woman did not disappoint her audience. She sat there in the we.t, liat tilted back, and smile.d and bowed her acknowledgments. “Tom Mix I” yelled a painter from the top of a ladder. Roars of laugher followed, and the “gallery” grew larger. Then the woman rose with mock dignity and we,nt on her way.
