HAURAKI SHOW.

MORE LOCAL MEMBERS WANTED. REMARKS' BY THE PRESIDENT. Prior to the election of the president- at the annual meeting of the Hauraki A. and P. Association at Paeroa on Thursday night the retiring president, Mr W. J. Hall, intimated that he did not seek re-election to that office. He consderted that it was a position that should go round. During the two years he had Allied the office he, had spent a very happy time, and he wished to express- his sincere appreciation and thanks to all who ha.d so loyally assisted him and had worked enthusiastically for the success- and welfare of the, association. The secretary, Mr E. Edwards, had been a tower of strength, and his intimate knowledge of running a show successfully and his obliging and courteous disposition had helped to win many supporters and friend&'fbr the assoication.

Terminating his, remarks, the speaker said that it gave him pleasure to nominate Mr H. J. Hare for th© position of president. Seconded by Mr E. W. Porritt and carried.

In returning thanks for the honour conferred upon him Mr Hare said that he would use his best endeavours to follow in the footsteps of past presidents. He realised the responsibilities attached to the office, but he would do his best, and looked the support and confidence of the members. The speaker said he thought that the business- people and local residents of Paeroa should be encouraged to take a livelier interest in the affairs of the association. Tn going through the membership register it was- surprising to find that there were only about fifty names of local people. It was- not only a matter of giving donations, although they were always welcome, but enthusiasm and interest were what was wanted, and they helped to push the show along. Apart' from the educational value and competitive spirit that was. derived, a well-conducted show was a splendid advertisement for a town and district. There were many loyal workers who had the affairs of the association at heart, but new blood was wanted and new members, could be assured of a hearty welcome.

On the motion of Mr Hare it was decided to record the association’s appreciation and thanks to Mr Hall for the valuable services rendered.
