“CADGERS.”
A “cadger” is one of those undesirable individuals who invariably get their living by trickery and begging. “Cadgers” are to be found round the corners of hotels in the and very often within their walls. They are also to be found in the country towns where hotels exist, but where there are not any hotels these men are seldom seen. Since the hotels re.-opened in Paeroa these "undesirables” have made themselves, conspicuous, but fortunately they do not belong toi Paeroa, but they represent that they are employed in the place, .and with this misrepresentation are able to “gull” the unsuspecting, who in response to their “tale of woe” buy them a drink and frequently give them money, to say nothing of tobacco and matches. They will hang round the, hotels all day so long as their contemptible ends are served. But the landlords soon boiwl them out and they have to “get,” for the landlords will not have their patrons imposed upon, and the, “cadgers” have to seek fresh fields for their nefarious work.
